Fans of Britain's Got Talent are convinced they have found the winner of the hit talent show.

Taking to the stage on Saturday (May 21), the shy Maxwell Thorpe seriously impressed viewers, with many labeling it a "Susan Boyle moment."  The Sheffield opera singer wowed the judges and the audience with his portrayal of Caruso.

Maxwell received a standing ovation from the crowd after his performance.  The judges, Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon also stood up to praise him.

Head judge Simon said, "My God, Maxwell, that was extraordinary. You were so shy and quiet and then that happened! Your passion and obviously your voice and just you, I thought, made it amazing. It was brilliant."

Alesha added, "Wow, woof, woof! I mean, the hairs on my arms stood up as soon as you started," while David declared, "You're headed for the big time."

Viewers at home were just as impressed as the judges, with many taking to Twitter to say they thought Maxwell could win the current series of Britain's Got Talent.  Eleanor @miselly501 commented: "#Maxwell there's the winner. Right there #BGT."

One user wrote: "#BGT Maxwell This was a Susan Boyle moment. Maxwell has the voice, the humility and the character. It was a #GoldenBuzzer performance. She will win #BGT 2022."

Another joked: "Maxwell Thorpe is up there with Paul Potts and Susan Boyle for the wonderful performance he gives here and I applaud him for it."

A third raved: "Maxwell, the opera singer at BGT...absolutely amazing. He had me hooked from the moment he started singing. Surely the next Paul Potts/I'm going up and it would be fully deserved #BGT."

Another added: "@BGT #bgt I said it a few weeks ago that we had a Susan Boyle moment but my God it happened again tonight with #Maxwell."
