Capgemini teams up with Peugeot Sport to accelerate and optimise the development of its hybrid hypercar using artificial intelligence

Peugeot will be racing in the 9x8 World Endurance Championship (FIAWEC1), an international motorsport competition that includes several races, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

PARIS, 6th April, 2022 - Capgemini has signed a multi-year partnership with Peugeot Sport to provide advanced digital equipment to the PEUGEOT 9X8 FIA WEC program team.  Peugeot Sport Topflight is set to return to endurance racing this summer.  It will leverage the expertise of Capgemini's data and AI applications to advance the performance of its revolutionary hybrid hypercar in both the simulator and the racetrack.  This new partnership also symbolizes the commitment of both companies to energy transformation.

Pooling the potential of Peugeot Sport and Capgemini's digital tools will allow the team's engineers, drivers and mechanics to deepen their understanding of the 9X8, while simultaneously accelerating and enhancing its competitiveness.  In particular, as software development becomes an important factor, given that in keeping with the hypercar regulations of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the car's hardware specifications will be frozen for a period of four years.

The Peugeot Sport is at an important stage in the development of the car, this fundamental technical support is a sign of how motor racing is developing.  For example, the specific computing capabilities, algorithms and artificial intelligence brought to the table by Capgemini will complement software developed within the sports and automobile industries.  This will help deliver increasingly accurate power management under acceleration and during the regeneration phase (capped by regulations at 200kW), two important performance and reliability-related parameters.  In addition, improvements introduced by Peugeot Sport and Capgemini to boost the performance of the new hypercar at the FIA World Endurance Championship will benefit Peugeot road cars as well.

The disruptive vision inherent in artificial intelligence fits in perfectly with the spirit that guided the design of the PEUGEOT 9X8.  The ability to analyze car behavior in real time opens up a whole new world of opportunities for the team.  Not only does this complement the rapidly evolving technologies already existing in motorsport, but it will also contribute to the ongoing quest for high performance, taking into account a broad spectrum of race scenarios.
