In Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Earthquake has been felt, in magnitude 4.5...
Source Diglipur, ANI. Andaman as well as the Nicobar Islands has experienced tremors. In Andaman and Nicobar the earthquakes were felt according to the National Seismology Center, 137 kilometers north of Diglipur. It has been reported that Saturday morning, around 8:50 am, this earthquake happened. The size of this island earthquake was 4.5. However, with this earthquake, there is no report of damage. Earlier today in Uttarakhand, too, earthquakes were felt. People claim the earthquakes were quite powerful. At about 5.58 am today, an earthquake hit Uttarakhand. Joshimath in Chamoli district was the epicenter of the earthquake. This earthquake was found five kilometers below the ground level. Its intensity on the Richter scale was also measured at 4.7. However, due to the earthquake, no damage has been recorded.
What is the reason for the earthquake?
The Earth consists mainly of four parts: the inner heart, the outer core, mantle, and crust. The crust and top mantle is the lithosphere. This layer is 50 kilometers thick and consists of pieces called tectonic plates. These tectonic plates continue to move from the position, but an earthquake happens when they move too much. Both horizontally and vertically these plates can be used. They find their position after this and one plate falls behind the other in such a manner.
What is the cause of plates colliding?
These planets are actually extremely slow-moving. They migrate from their position every year 4-5 mm. Another goes away as one platform moves near another platform. So they collide sometimes.
What do an earthquake's epicenter and strength mean?
The epicenter of an earthquake is the location underneath the geological energy released by plate movement. In this place their significant earthquake tremors. The impact reduces with the vibration frequency diminishing. If an earthquake occurs on the scale of Richter at magnitude 7 or more, the tremor is stronger within a radius of 40 kilometers. It also relies, however, on whether the earthquake frequency is high or within reach. If the vibration frequency is higher, less area is impacted.
Which earthquakes are the most hazardous?
Earthquakes of a Richter magnitude of less than 5 are typically not harmful; however, this depends on the area's structure. An earthquake of magnitude 5 can be harmful if its epicenter is near the river's bank and there are towering structures built without seismic technology.
Protect yourself from earthquakes like these...
- Construction of a secure earthquake-proof building.
- Take disaster management courses and conduct rehearsals from time to time.
- Make a catastrophe pack that should include radio, necessary paper, cell phone, torch, match, candles, slippers, some money, and medications.
- Keep the furniture tight for balance. Use the elevator at all.
- Stay away from in an open space from trees and electrical wires.
- Do not enter the home after it has been demolished.
- If you're already inside the automobile, don't get out.
